On July 18 Panasonic introduced three new cameras, the DMC- LX7, DMC-G5, and the DMC-Z200. The FZ200 is a versatile, powerful camera that will come on the market in September, 2012 and is an upgrade to the Lumix FZ- series that was introduced back in mid 2004 with the FZ3, FZ15, and FZ20 boasting at the time the less powerful 12x zoom.
Sony introduced the SLT-A37 in June 2012 as a part of the Single-Lens Translucent series. The Translucent Mirror Technology makes it different from the bulkier DSLR because it uses a fixed semi-translucent mirror as compared to a moving non-translucent one. Since sufficient light reaches the sensor through the mirror, the lens does not need to move.
The power of a DSLR in the body of a point and shoot is the notion behind the Canon PowerShot G1 X. This little 14.1 megapixel powerhouse has a lot of punch behind its sensible facade. The Canon PowerShot G1 X has a price tag of a DSLR, making it an odd camera in a saturated market. Its competitor, the Nikon One, is priced at about $200 lower than the Canon.
Nikon’s Coolpix P510 follows up on the success of its 36x P500 camera. With a whopping 42x optical zoom the Coolpix P150 is a small camera with a big range. The Coolpix P150 is in the “superzoom” category of point and shoot/compact cameras. While the camera looks like a small version of a DSLR its lens is neither removable nor interchangeable.
Canon has updated its Rebel series with a brand new more video-friendly unit, the Canon EOS Rebel T4i. July 18 Panasonic announced the release of the LX5’s replacement, the Lumix DMC- LX7 into the compact camera market. They incorporated a 1/1.7 inch CMOS sensor. Even though their lens covers the same focal range as its predecessor, it is two stops faster and has a decent speed throughout the entire 24-90 mm zoom range.
Sony’s Alpha NEX-7 puts a lot of features into its small body with its 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a sizeable 2.4M dot OLED high-resolution electronic viewfinder. It has a three-dial interface that makes for good handling while the drawback could only be finding the right lens to get the most out of the camera. It is just the right camera for the enthusiast
Nikon builds on its DSLR success with the D7000, a camera released as a full-frame option for the “prosumer” market. The D7000 is the follow-up to Nikon’s D90 model. The D7000 is a bit of a paradox; it is stealthy in that it looks too simple to be as complex as it is. The complexity is in the innards and not in its use. Nikon keeps the camera priced under $1000
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V is the mid-range model in Sony’s trio of GPS armed travel zoom cameras, which consist of the HX10V, the HX20V, and the HX30V. All of them use the same 18.2 Megapixel sensor but, the HX10V has only a 16X zoom lens while both the HX20V and the HX30V have the larger 20X lens.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is the next in line from the evolution of the EOS 5D Mark II. The Mark II was one of Canon’ best sellers among its professional-level single shutter DSLR cameras. Released in early 2012 the Mark III builds on the success of the Mark II and adds several new features and functions to the camera.
The Nikon D3200 is the entry-level D-SLR for the company, and has been viewed as an upgrade from its predecessor, the D3100, most notably in the camera’s resolution. In addition to that, the D3200 boasts features that many view to be a great choice for those who are looking for their first interchangeable lens camera.
The new Canon EOS M will be priced at around $800 and is currently available for pre order in most countries. At this price tag it can definitely be considered a high end digital camera option, with the EOS M arriving in compact form rather than the bulkier DSLR EOS that came prior to this model. This compact design looks sleek and impressive
Panasonic’s newest release to the realm of the mid range DSLR is the Lumix DMC-G5. Normally we have seen some pretty positive things from Panasonic and the Lumix range, catering for all budgets and level of enthusiasm for photography. Now the DMC-G5 is set to compete with cameras such as the Fuji X10, Nikon 3200 as well as the new Canon EOS M set to release in September.
The Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera is a Micro Four Thirds camera expressly designed to bridge the gap between point-and-shoot cameras and full-size DSLR cameras. It is aimed at serious enthusiasts: it offers much higher performance and control than point-and-shoot cameras, but is not intended to be a professional camera.
When you first look at the Fuji X10 nothing remarkable really jumps out at you. The simple, elegant and retro design causes to camera to look as though it has jumped straight out of the 1950’s when portable camera use really took a hold of the masses. Priced at around $450-$550 across the internet, the Fuji X10 is encroaching upon a high end portable camera price tag
Topaz plug-ins allow the user to quickly apply any of an included collection of visual effect presets to an image, and to tweak those effects via additional adjustment controls. For this review, I will be focusing on how I use the Topaz plug-ins within my post processing workflow.
