I am sure this like all the others has members with very different skill levels. I concider myself at the mid-range skill lefel and am looking forward to contributing what I can and expanding my knowledge of the art.

Do you make a living out of it?

I do sports photography for 3 weekly newspapers on a freelance per event basis. Weeklys do not have a lot of money so I only get 1 to 3 assignments per week. The going rate is only $25 per assignment. I also shoot sports for a website for kids sports. www.gameon4kids.com. This is a new endevor and is catching on quickly. The rate is the same for now but as his advertising campaign increases revenue he will cover more events and require several photographers from the counties surrounding Tampa Florida. I do some work on my own in the sports field to obtain original photographs of Pros and try to get autographs. I promote this thru one of my websites www.freeze-framephoto.com.

The pet photography is all on me. I hold photo sessions at local pet oriented businesses. At these sessions I will sell prints or CD of the sessions. Mostly we have these around holiday theams. We set up small scenes for "Howl-O-Ween" or have photos with "Santa-Paws" (you get the idea). These sessions will bring in about $150.00 per day but only 1 time each month or so. My other website is more about the animals, www.jimspics.net. It's more of a fun site and a place to show off a few shots or just a place to gain public intrest or possibly booking a pet photo session.
So the answer to your question is...I do make money at it YES but certanily not a living. I'm retired on Social Security so this is the perfect way to make "beer money" doing something I love to do.SmileSmileSmile
