Hi all,
Just wanted to drop a line or two to introduce myself to everyone.
I'm very new to photography, at 37 bought myself a Pentax K30 this July and decided to trade my life in and apply for a photography degree course. I got offered a place to my utter surprise during the interview!
Does anybody have any thoughts on Pentax particularly the k30? It took me quite some time to decide on it and I'm wondering did I make the right choice as I'm still getting to grips with it. Or possibly have I purchased equipment out of my range of ability? Actually that sounds possibly correct.
Anyway not knowing much and not having any experience I'll probably not contribute much but I'm keen to learn from the threads on this forum and looking forward to maybe a little banter on the subject.
hi bud, im still learning my camera but every day i, out with it i am learning more mostly from my mistakes lol read the instruction manual. (i know us blokes dont do things like that) but hey i will not tell if you dont lmao enjoy your camera, post some images and let us see
i found that by doing that some great advice has been put my way maybe it will help with you getting to grips with settings etc
Hi funkymunky,
Thanks for the welcome
Check out my portfolio, it's pretty naive but did get me an instant offer of a place at Uni last week. I suspect they thought I desperately needed help haha
I'll post in main room too
Welcome to the forums - it is a pleasure to meet you and have you here on site. You are welcome to post family friendly photos in the forums for critiques or suggestions. Thanks!
Barbara thanks for the welcome
Do you know? I put a link on here to some of my pics in an online portfolio... It has vanished.... Am I right in thinking this is not allowed?
"post family friendly photos"
This may be a clue!! Ed.
yep i did have a look fab photo's.... was that a film set you was on? (butcher) or a photo shoot?!
Oh ed mak - terribly sorry, I didn't note that sentence and if I had I probably wouldn't have classed those pics as not family friendly. Will bare this in mind in future though, again apologies. Is there any guidance as to what is and isn't family friendly?
Funkymunky - it was a little bit of documentary photography, I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot it, I was thrilled given my lack of experience and probably won't get an opportunity to do such a shoot again as the butchery shoot. I made some fatal errors in not test shooting and getting my shutter speed right before hand, hundreds of possibly amazing shots were totally ruined
but I learned a harsh lesson
Edmak - actually it is a shame as I would have liked to receive some constructive feedback on the shots contained within that link. A lot of my photography will be of an alternative nature. I wonder whether there could be a secure area of the forum for images that are innovative and edgy subjects. Obviously nothing pornographic....?
How about I provide a link which does not display pictures directly on the site along with a warning that some people may not consider the pictures to be family friendly.
I would hate my work to be excluded from receiving valuable feedback from forum members just because they are alternative - the images are of piercing but not the act of piercing.
Cheers
Have u got many more? I would love to have a look, maybe u couldd private message me a link or email it to me if that's ok?! I'm not proffessional but would to give my opion
I mean some of ur other snaps as well as the above mentioned
Haha funkymunky! You don't know what you're letting yourself in for. I'm a happier snapper so thee are a lot!
I will pm you my google pics link - I uploaded them there while some friends were helping me select for my portfolio.
I really appreciate any feedback and if there are any you think are note worthy with a lite editing, let me know and ill pull them out and work on them
Thanks buddy
If anyone else wants my google link let me know and I will provide no problem
Rik,
I was out of town yesterday. I have sent you a message on Shuttertalk this morning. Thank you!
