Professioal photographer of too many years to mention and teacher lover of photography forever.
My main passions are portrait and more recently landscapes, but my first love is gig photography as it is the most challenging !

Welcome Roz!
You will like it here! I had never heard of the term "gig photography" so of course looked it up. You are right! A challenge in its own right! I have been trying to photography music concerts (school concerts) in dim light and it certainly makes you think about the lighting! I don't have expensive equipment but I just keep plugging along the best I can. I wish I could afford an L series 2.8! I look truly forward to see your posts and any guidance in this area that you may wish to share. The main thing is to have fun here at Shutter Talk! Cheers! Sharon

Great to see pros in here to offset the snapshot types like me.
In the good old days of film, I did take a basic black and white photography course at a local community college, that also included darkroom processing and printing.
Must admit I did like that and bought the equipment to develop and print at home.
The gear is still up in the attic along with my Yashica-D medium format camera and my old Minolta SRT 200.
Sometimes I miss using them as I found manual focusing easier that with my Canon G1 10 or my new Nikon D5200 re split screen/crushed glass effect.

TrueNorth;
There are replacement focusing screens available to replicate your earlier focusing experience.

Wow!
Thanks for this tip. I had no idea the old screens were available.
Now...to work up the courage to attempt an install on my new camera.
