Hi guys I am new to the photography scene although been taking pics with a Lumix camera which is my wifes and decided that I wanted a SLR camera which was easy to use etc and finished up purchasing a Nikon D3200 as a starter camera. Now I have purchased a Tamron 18-200mm lense and cannot wait until it arrives so I can practice with it while my grandkids are here on holiday and then in September I will be taking it on our vacation a cruise around the Med.
I tend to use the camera in automatic mode and find the shutter speed a tad slow don't know if that's normal with this camera so any views welcome. The pics turn out ok so I am happy but want to take some close ups and macro shots so until the lens arrives I am eagerly waiting for the lense to arrive and get clicking.
Regards John.
Automatic is what it says, Microprocessors choice, there are other settings available try them, Shutter Priority, let's you choose the speed. Only lens I own is an 18/200mm Tamron. on a Sony a290. Pleased, and impressed with it. Welcome. Ed.

Thanks Ed that's the reason for purchasing it as the standard lens with the camera is a bit limited.

Welcome, John. You might find the following web site both fun and useful - you can immediately see the effect on a photo of using the different camera modes and controls:

Welcome to Shuttertalk. I think you picked a good camera/lens combination for starters. You will have a good time learning to use them and get some good pictures. Good luck on your cruise. Have a good time and post some pictures when you return. Most people start off in Auto and graduate to the other modes. According to what I read, that is a good way to get to know your equipment. Have a GREAT DAY!
Philip, remarkable site, some clever people around. Ed.

Yes, Ed - it's amazing! And not only are they clever people, but they are also commendably generous in making it freely available on the Web. Smile

Cheers.
