Don't you think it kind of spoils the look of the gable end and leaves the road signs awful close to the edge of the picture?

It might be a renovated old block but, to me, it looks out of character in your first photo, John. Perhaps the solution is to brave the traffic, and get the shot from about 5 yards further right, including just the first gable end.
