At a couple of places I see that the 170-500mm is actually cheaper than the 135-400mm, I want one of them and am thinking that the 135-400mm would be better with the slightly smaller starting size for the photos I want to take.

Thoughts? Should I just get a Kenko MC-7 2X converter, does the MC-7 auto focus with the 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC Sigma that I already have?
The 80-400mm is not available for Pentax according to the Sigma site and I suspect that the 50-500mm is out of my price range at US$999. The 135-400mm is around US$300-500 and the 170-500mm around the same price.
Ooh, I didn't know Sigma made lenses with image stabilisation! Big Grin
Looks like it but not for Pentax.

IF the British weather picks up, I will be out shooting with my 135-400. Perhaps the results will assist your choice.

Maybe................................
Hey Pete,

centre.net.au have the 50-500 with a pentax mount for AU$1470 which seems pretty good.

Here is their selection of Sigma lenses with a Pentax mount:

Just food for thought.. I have no idea if you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but often it seems that a US$999 product ends up costing AU$1999 when it hits the shops here. Sad So at least AU$1470 is promising. Smile

Cheers

Yes, pricing can be a bit of a pain. Might have to get work to send me to the US again, probably wont be till next Feb though. I don't think that I can wait that long.
I said, I think, that the Sigma 135 400 is £299 in the UK. That's 723 AUD.
That seems reasonable enough, have to keep saving my pennies.
Finally, some Sigma 135 400 pics, but only 3. Sorry.

Thanks mate. Appreciate the shots. I guess I am fishing a bit at the moment and thinking that the 55-200mm that I have is enough for most of what I am doing now really.

That said it is always good to have plenty of ammo so that you are always ready for that great shot. I do like doing a bit of wildlife shooting but will just have to restrict myself to the slower closer animals. Big Grin

I will buy something bigger I will have to keep saving for now.

Cheers.
