Very unique plant. I've never seen these before. Being on the West Coast you'd think I would have. Maybe I have but just don't remember.
The only thing that picks me about the image is the over saturated reds (hard to avoid). There does seem to be some degrading due to downsizing for the web. I think the crop you used is fine and the small stump on the right adds balance to the image.

There is no post processing on this other than sharpening, the crop is straight from camera.
The reds do look over saturated and probably a result of the light being extremely bad and having to boost the iso to 800. Shot them after sunset under trees. Didn't have a chance to go back while they would still be out.
Oops, just checked and it has had some slight cropping from the original.

Hmmm, I see. It does look a tad over sharpened.

I like the overall composition, just not crazy about the lighting for this one. Leaves it a bit flat.

About the red color.... Sometimes I get flowers with over saturated colors. What I do and sometimes works is to add a gradient map layer black and white and reduce the oppacity to 10-20 percet to calm down the color I want... I think in your picture would work because you have dark colors...
I like your picture a lot
