#1 has lovely light and I like the negative space in the composition.
The only thing I don't like is the sapling, or post or whatever it is immediately to the left of the crossing signal - I would clone that out if I were you. Not sure if this photo is cropped at all, but if there is any extra space at the top - the crossbar of the telephone pole could use some breathing room. Good photo.
I see what you are getting at with #2 - but the pole in the middle sparates it into 2 distinct photos for me and kills the composition.
So there you go - I must really hate that pole - I realize that it is the same one I said you should clone out in my critique of #1.

I love the color contrast in these...how most of the image is grey/brown with just a touch of colour in the sky or in the light signal thingy
