I took this during a trip to South Africa (my real home) in Hluhluwe game reserve Kwa Zulu Natal. Canon 20D shot in RAW then converted to black and white in Photoshop using the Channel Mixer.

Neat!
Hope you don't mind: I've cropped a bit tighter and added contrast to attempt to squeeze a tad more drama; the subject is good enough to warrant making the background a bit more uniform, which I did by dodging the darker patches.

Hope I've not overdone the contrast.
Hmmm, just having another look...is there a way to put a bit of a catchlight in its eye?
interesting! I like the tight crop, and the monochrome lines/shapes work well.
I love Zebra's, never had a chance to see them in the wild. There seems to be a bit of a halo around the animals? Caused by post processing?
Not sure about that. I didn't sharpen. Perhaps it's just the low resolution?
Odd, that halation, just on the one side, so presumably no sharpening halo as you say...I wonder if any filter you had on the lens might have added this?
perhaps it's just the colour of the bushes behind? :/
Nice shot Shellby. Beautiful subject.

This picture has been printed in AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY magazine!
I won the picture of the week in the Mike Malony section
My first image in print - so pleased
(and no I didn't use any filters I believe that it is just the colour of the bushes behind the zebra)
hi
nice...great stuff
what lens did u used? zebras are so timid! or are friendly zebras?
take care
Congratulations on your publication and I agree that the background is causing the halo look.
I used a 75 - 300mm Canon lens on my Canon 20D
I took it in Hluhluwe game reserve in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa
Wow, congrats Shellby! Awesome achievement! I think you deserve it - especially with that photo.
