Quote:Dear Valued Nikon Customer
Nikon has announced a Voluntary Recall and Replacement Program for certain Nikon
EN-EL3 lithium-ion batteries for Nikon Digital-SLR cameras (Nikon Coolpix owners
can safely ignore the remainder of this email).
It has come to our attention that some Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries EN-EL3 for
Nikon digital-SLR cameras may, on rare occasions, overheat causing the battery
to become deformed or, in the worse case, to catch fire. Nikon has received
notification of 4 cases of such batteries worldwide but has decided to implement
a voluntary recall and replacement program.
The EN-EL3 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery is a lithium-ion battery for USE with
Nikon D100, D70, D70S, and D50 digital-SLR cameras. Among these 4 models, it
is SUPPLIED with purchase of the D100, D70, and D50. In the interest of our
customers' safety, we have, as mentioned earlier, decided to implement a
voluntary recall and replacement program. Customers with recalled batteries
should request a replacement battery as indicated below. We sincerely apologise
for any inconvenience this issue may cause you.
1. Your Battery
? If your EN-EL3 has a 4-digit production lot number listed in the table below
your battery IS subject to this recall. Please remove the battery immediately
from your camera and discontinue use.
? EN-EL3 production lot numbers can be found in the centre groove on the bottom
(surface covered by the terminal cover) of the battery (tilt the battery so that
the light shines directly on the groove to see the lot number).
Note: If the production lot number of your EN-EL3 is not among those in the list
of recalled lot numbers, or if your rechargeable battery is an EN-EL3a or an
EN-EL3e, your battery is NOT affected by this recall. This recall also excludes
any third party batteries which do not bear the Nikon brand or EN-EL3 model
number.
