Killing some time before a wedding reception - we went to the shrine of rememberance - built to commemorate the Australian and New Zealand armed forces' participation and sacrifice in WWI and WWII.

The shrine is situated next the botanical gardens, just in the outskirts of Melbourne's CBD. Although there are a few visitors around, the atmosphere is pretty serene and quiet. Once a year, on ANZAC day (April 25th), all the armed forces hold a huge parade to commemorate those that served.

I think this place holds a bit of significance for me - although I wasn't involved in any wars, I used to be in the Air Force cadets, and we used to march with the veterans on ANZAC day. Being in the cadets as well, we learnt about what the allied forces did and how much they sacrificed for their country and allies.

Around the shrine are inscribed the locations of major theatres and battles - this one in in France (1918 - 3rd battle of the Somme, I think)

By the way, that's the city of Melbourne in the background... not much of a skyline eh, compared to say NY?
Great series ST

we will remember them and the everlasting flame are my pics.

do you have a polarized filter? I think they add to these day type shots. The shrine has a bit of that look about it.........in the sky

cheers Russ
Nice pics! And the skyline happens to fit into the picture just great! :-) That's my favorite, how that path seems to lead right into the valley between the highrises.

Has anyone ever used tiltable lenses? I was just looking at some pictures taken with canon TSE lenses, and they look great (of course this was in a book issued by canon, so who knows what they did to the pictures to market their stuff).
just thinking, because your shrine seems to lean back quite heavily - no offence Wink !

Thanks for the comments!

Russt - no polarising filter yet for my new 18-70 lens... probably should have though - it was a beautifully sunny day, and might have had a richer blue in the sky...

Uli - yeah, the tilt is quite emphasised, isn't it, especially in the wide angle shots... might be a bit of distortion contibuting to the effect as well. Big Grin
