This isn't too great because I just spent a few minutes on it,but here goes...

1. Roughly select the part of the shadow on the ground that is flared - I used the lassoo and feathered the selection to 30 pixels.
2. Use curves to darken the selected area to match the rest of the ground.
3. Select the part of the sky that is flared and feather the selection to about 10 pixels.
4. Desaturate a bit to get rid of the magenta color cast and then use curves to equalize the sky tone with the rest of the sky.
5. Select the flared part of the tree and feather the selection to 10 pixels.
6. Desaturate the selection to get rid of the color cast.
7. Use curves to darken the tree to roughly the same as the rest of the tree
8. Increase contrast on the selection until it looks right.
9. Select the bright spot in the middle and desaturate a bit more
10. Do some very slight cloning to fill the bright spot with some branching.

Hope this helps.

[edit] BTW - you can use this same trick of desaturating and darkening with curves to get rid of red-eye.
Wow, great fix Toad!

I would have said that you should shoot into the sun to avoid lens flare... Big Grin
That is an impressive fix, Toad.

And i like what you did too Byrt .. But the second one looks a little " fake " with the back ground but i am sure that could be fixed with more time to work on it ..
