I like the composition of #2 better - as I always feel that when I see a dead center subject, there is no need to look at the edges of the photo. #1 suffers from this problem somewhat and also has quite a lot of dead space on the top and bottom. #2 gets around this very nicely and so is a much better shot IMO.
I also like the DOF on #2 - the out of focus foreground adds interest.
I agree, no 2 is a better composition. There is some blue in the sky too, which adds interest
Toad pretty much took the words from my mouth. The only other thing about #2 that might make it a more pleasing shot to look at is flipping the image so that the tree is on the left. Maybe.
I agree with Toad... However I think #1 has some possibilities in sepia... as you like sepia... I worked with your piture and cropped a bit to change the compostion..
