Seems like finally we made it! Spring had been here for a short "Stelldichein" before, but then we went though another week or so of rain and cold.... Now it's really all over the place! Central Park is a different place all of a sudden with all the crowds out there, artists galore: musicians, dancers, painters, you name it. And everyone is getting ready for or enjoying spring their own way. I am not a good essay shooter, here are just some of my random impressions.

I know this is a lot of pictures, I hope you enjoy some of them. Feel free to comment! No critique is required here, but it will be appreciated Smile Smile

at some of the lakes in Central Park you can rent boats, famous tourist amusement....

Then there were these volunteers in the Ramble, a bird reservoir in Central Park, putting up feeders for a week (to attract birds...??), which seemed quite a challenge.....

Everyone seems busy helping to prepare public and private facilities, like the famous Bethesda Fountain, and various Cafés etc. for the summer:

(notice the white heron in the background? I learned after I had taken the picture, and before I actually got to see it on the screen, that a lot of people actually specifically came to take pictures of this heron today....:-) )

And of course there are all the kids and their families pouring out onto the lawns and playgrounds, making the whole place a colorful, joyful place:

But then there is also plenty of room for the more contemplative, I didn't take many picutures of them, because I think they are seeking a little bit of privacy in this crazy City

Finally, you probably have all seen this in some version or the other:

So imagine it was spring in Australia.... Big Grin

Enjoy, Uli
It is just as nice every year when it arrives. Spring. Ours is trying but is struggling a little.
Really interesting shots. Lovely lighting and composition on the last one as well!
interesting collection of shots Uli, the last 2 are standouts for me. The park with the kids playing gets me in, I like all the colours....... You can tell you have spring now with all the coats hanging on the rails.......

dam! we are now in autumn heading to winter :|
(argh! No picture numbers!)

"fountain cleaner1", "chair refurbisher" and "kids clothes" really jump out at me. I'd take "fountain cleaner1" into a narrow, vertical crop to get rid of the ladder and the base (cropped to just below the cherubs). You have a good eye, and excellent timing.

Shooting heron? I can't be the only one who misread that, can I? Big Grin
haha, I had to look twice too matt!

Its funny, autumn is a bit sluggish here this year too (29 degrees C today)

Great photos again Uli, I can really see your work improving.
I know I've said it before, but one of the reasons I love coming here is seeing what's going on everywhere else in the world without getting off my butt .
uh, I don't get it with the heron..... someone help me please.

And thanks matthew, just keep reminding me...... :-))

I'm glad this saves you some travel tickets and hassle schell!!

It's a word play between heron, the bird, and heroin, the drug. It's usually injected (or so I'm told), aka 'shooting up', so shooting heron in central park isn't exactly what my New York stereotype would be.

I'm easily amused.

From wikipedia's entry on the subject (emphasis added):

wikipedia Wrote:Felix Hoffmann, of Bayer in Elberfeld, Germany created Heroin as a medicine 11 days after inventing Aspirin. Afraid of the possible side effects of Aspirin, Bayer registered Heroin (meaning 'heroine' in German, chosen because in field studies people using the medicine felt 'heroic') as a trademark. From 1898 through to 1910 it was marketed as a non-addictive morphine substitute and cough medicine for children.
I'll stick with aspirin.
:-))

except that heroine in German is "Heldin", heroin, or heroine, or any version thereof is not a German word......

weird. shows you with how much precaution wikipedia is to be taken
Cough medicine for children... lol. Big Grin
Very nice series of snaps. I like that last one.
Very nice series, very springlike...
