This is not a macro shot. Image taken at 400-mm, ISO-250, f5.6 - Enjoy! Cool

Wow! I've just posted some butterfly pics myself - now I wish I hadn't. :/

This is tack sharp and beautiful! BTW I think I'm shooting my butterflies with the same lens as you do... Smile
Thanx, I hope you clicked on the photo, in order to see the size I posted. I had a look at your images and they are very nice too, I'd be proud to own them! Smile
That is a lovely butterfly shot - well done.
Thanx W.S, Btw: I have a wedding to shoot in 2 weeks! Tongue
Wow ...stunning photo, take a gander at the one I recently posted
All the best with the wedding Smile

How did you land the job? Love to see pictures when you have finished.
WS: The guy was my co-worker, but now I am on a different department and he just quit, as I heard yesterday. I'll call them on the weekend for some last minute details and possibly meet up with them and go thru the list they want and arrange backup plans, in-case of rain. Problem is, I don't have a fast, wide angle lens. I'll be shooting this with a 50-mm f/1.8 prime and an EFS 17-85 Wide-zoom, which is not very efficent in low light...
Are they getting married in a church - or outdoors? If you are going to be shooting inside suggest you rent either a 24-70 2.8 L or a wide angle L Prime.

On my 5D I could shoot an entire wedding on the 24-70 as it has enough of a wide angle on that body. But I use a 17-40 L for inside Limo shots and other more interesting angles. It looks like you already have a 70-200 2.8 by your avatar Smile - that should do fine (best if it is the IS version for inside work) for zoomed shots of the kiss and rings. The 24-70 L also has good macro ability for ring shots and other small details on the reception tables.

I presume you have a decent external flash. There are a couple of really good flash difusers out there (particularly useful for wedding work) - if you are interested I can post some links. I don't want to sound like a know it all - so just tell me so if I get like that Tongue

You are a great photographer so I know these guys will be happy with your work.
Thanx for the tips WS; That lens on my avatar is the 100-400 L, but not fully extended, I also have a 70-200 f/4 L which I could use for outdoors candids. As far as I know the ceremony is going to be in a church and the reception is indoors as well. I want to take them to a park to do the formals. The 24-70 wouldn't do much good on my 30D as it's not a FF camera, but the 17-85 on a tripod should do ok for the formals and group shots, I'll do the rest with the 50mm f/1.8. My flash is the Sigma DG 500 and it has it's own defuser for wide shots. I have to be careful with this flash, as it blows light colors when not controlled. Got it toned down by Flash-exposure.

I've been doing digital photography for about 5 years and did film before that, but not too many weddings under my belt. :/
Sounds good Janika - hopefully you will have a bit of room in the church to move around so that the 50 1.8 will be ok.

The difuser I was referring to is more for allowing you to bounce the flash while still lighting up the eye sockets - even with very high ceilings.

I am sure you will do well.
Beautiful colors Janika... Smile I like the composition as well....
Pity we don't have so beautiful butterflies here... at least not in the area I live...
WS, I'll let you know about the results in about 2 weeks! Wink

Irma, I didn't really have a chance to compose this as it was a total accident I saw this, so I just aimed and pressed the shutter once it was in focus. The Monarch butterflies don't stay too long on one spot... Thanx for looking, eh! Smile
Very nice - the combination of colors really sets this one off.
