I personlly dont thin there is too much foreground IMO . I really like both of the shots .

I definitely like #2 better. The composition is much better. Nice job!
As a rule of thumb, try not to have horizons in the dead center. A high horizon makes the subject look close, a low one makes the subject look farther. #2 improves the shot by being slightly off-center, IMO.
I prefer the second shot, but I agree with Toad's comments about the composition.

Second is better - would prefer even less foreground.
