Yesterday I got this image printed at 12x18 inches. I found a local store (roll on in) that will do 12x18's for $15. This one turned out great - now I have to find a frame / mat big enough....

I would like to get one for each of my children. I was going to get this one done aswell but would like some opinions first. I followed a very similar editing routine as the above photo but it came out very different.

It will be easy to do again... I like this crop but do you find the skin too smooth? Do you find the overall image too dark?

Its definitely too smooth for me. You can get away with porcelain skin on a girl, but guys need a bit more character on thier faces.

Its also a bit dark.

I notice that the two front teeth on the 1st pic are overexposed. Did you whiten them at all? If so, its too much. They almost look capped in a way.

In any case, the 1st shot is pefectly cropped. great job!
Some times the same post processing doesn't work the same in two different pictures... It has happened to me as well, and my only explanation is that the result may vary because of the difference in temperature and tint... (color balance) in the picture, and the light, but I am not sure...

I also think that the skin looks too smooth as Jerry has pointed out... maybe if you work just a bit with the healing tool... to get rid of the more notorious imperfections? if any...

I also suggest to mask the light in the eyes along your treatment... your post processing darkens a lot the light there... and this might be another aspect that makes your picture look a bit too dark...
The teeth do look a little odd in the first shot - the forehead in the second looks overly smooth.
