Joined the forum because I just bought my first DSLR, my first SLR since a Nikon F in 1964 and Nikkormat in 1965 (both of which are stored in the hobby room with their various lenses). I'm just getting to know my D40x, and am enjoying gathering in some AF-S DX lenses (though my credit card is starting to vibrate under the strain). My hobby is photography combined with diecast airplane and miniature ship collecting. I collect models and add photos of them (slowly) to my web page; so far, the collecting part is WAY ahead of the photographing. Besides the two manual Nikons, my previous cameras were a Petri viewfinder model, a Canon A20, Canon S1 IS, and Lumix FZ7. I recently gave the Lumix to my son because it just didn't work for shooting miniatures (too much noise at even low ISO). Since he and his wife have a new baby, it made a great gift (on our recent family vacation he had the camera with him everywhere he went, so we know the baby will be well documented!). Anyway, I'll be picking up tips here and there on the forum, and thank you all ahead of time!

Hi CC, welcome to Shuttertalk. It's great to see someone with a hobby that they bring photography to.
