I normally don't get the chance to practice portraits, cause i can't usually find anyone patient enough to let me practice. I got lucky the other day though, cause an acquaintance of mine had asked me to do some portraits of her and her sister.

Pics were all shot outside taking advantage of the excellent natural light at the time. This is really my first proper attempt at portrait photography, so go easy.

#1 & 2 .........I would have liked wider crop to show the girls figures.
#4 ..... The left arm where it is leaning on the fence is squished up (right as we view it)
But they are all very good shots to me. Just a few of the crops look a bit tight. The exposures and placement of the girls looks great.

with #1 & 2 I Had to frame them like that to crop out background horribleness. Just a case of being restricted by environment.

I hadn't noticed the arm before....

The one through the fence is great because the face cannot be cropped any differently, but if it was just the frame instead of the gap in the fence then I would be wondering if anything was missing.
Like some where an ear is chopped off.
But these are my observations. If you like your own crop, and the girls like them then that is what counts.
I wish I was 20 again.

Thanks. It's also good to have subjects who don't get impatient with composition etc because they think photography is just point and click.

Very nice series RP...

They look very relaxed and happy... I think this is important in this kind of photography.

My fav are #6 and #16. I would suggest on #16 a crop on top to leave the eyes in an upper position.

Portrait photography is something I’ve recently gotten into myself, and you’re right that you have to have a patient subject while you’re learning. There are so many things to think about before you take the picture. You did quite well here. You have a nice variety of poses and expressions, which is something I have trouble coming up with. My favorites are 7, 9, 10, 11, and 13, and my only suggestion would be to crop out some of the blackness at the top of # 10. Overall, you’re off to a great start.
