Looking to get into the DSLR world, was looking at some packages for the Nikon D40 from fotoconnection. Some of there prices seem like it is too good to be true. Anyone have any thing good or bad to say about this site. I did some in store shopping at some major retailers in my home town and the basic Nikon d40 with a 18-55mm lens cost 549.99, on this site you can get the same thing along with a tripod, a 55-200mm lens a memory car and some other things for 549.99.

Might want to shop elsewhere.
Welcome!

There's a lot to be said for shopping locally -- for example, you'll almost certainly get what you order, and if you don't, you can contact the right people to fix it. Ultra-low internet pricing is usually suspect.

Personally, I've had excellent experience with B&H photo when I have needed to order on-line.
I'll add that some online sources will try very hard to "upsell" you on things like a warranty or added package "deals". Too bad the warranty is through them instead of someone with integrity.
Many shady dealers with amazing prices sell what are called "gray market" goods that have been ordered in another country with favorable monetary exchange rates, then shipped (or smuggled) into another place. They lure you in on the camera price then screw you on memory cards, lenses etc.
None of it is really what you wanted, or fits the description, or is obviously used.
These products do not have the proper warranties applied to them, and the manufacturers will not fix them or take returns. The serial numbers won't match those that were shipped to YOUR country.
Gray Market is a shade different from Black Market, but unless you want to take chances you should carefully research all online vendors.

B&H and Adorama are respected internet dealers at the top of the list.
Anyone else, it pays to do some Googling first to learn of the horrors inflicted on innocent buyers looking to save a few dollars.
